Russian Tortoise

Russian tortoises are a small and lively tortoise found throughout central Asia. They rarely exceed eight inches in length and females are larger than males. Russian tortoises make great pets and can be kept outside year round in most areas of our country. We started working with a large group of Russian tortoises in 2000. This group consisted of imported animals and we wanted to focus on producing captive bred stock. Most of our tortoises were not sexually mature at the time and we just started getting babies in 2005. If you’re looking for a pet tortoise that doesn’t get big then the Russian tortoise is for you. These tortoises are energetic and have a better personality than African spur tortoises.
